1. Introduction

This section is concerned with contemporary contentious issues, mostly not connected with science, but very much connected with stupidity! There are a few topics which I've wanted to write about for the last few years, but haven't dared, for fear that it might cost me my job, or prevent me getting another. While I don't need to worry about "social media", as I don’t use any – I believe the term should be preceded with "anti" - I know from past experience that prospective employers also spy on people's personal web sites.
But now that I've retired, there is no longer anything to stop me! So contentious topics start here. I'm well aware that some of what I have to say here will offend many younger people to the point of apoplexy; frankly, I don't give a rodent's posterior! If you don't like it, don't read it.
It very much proves the point, that the friend who drew the cartoon on this section's title page wishes to remain anonymous, for concerns that he might get into trouble for doing so!
And if, in accordance with a current idiotic trend, I find the police coming to my door, because I've "upset" someone, then bring it on!

This section has two parts. The first deals with the steady erosion in my country, by the Government and other organisations, of the most fundamental cornerstone of democracy – the right of free speech. The second concerns the all-pervading lunacy of so-called "woke" culture.
